What electronic reference materials are licensed and how accessible are they from outside the library (for example, in the residence halls or off-campus)?

The availability of licensed reference materials may be important to the way you will prepare your papers and other course requirements.

Does the campus have reference materials such as dictionaries, databases, thesauruses, atlases, and other electronic information available? Does the library subscribe to electronic databases and journals and if so are there any charges associated with their use? Are licensed electronic resources easy to access and to use? Can they be accessed from off campus, from the campus network, or only the library?

While some variance in access may be due to the way the campus network is designed, it is more likely that any limitations are a result of the way these materials are licensed by the owners to the campus library. Some materials may only be accessed on site and that means they will be available only in the library facility.

Another limitation may be the number of simultaneous users, which may cause you to repeatedly get a "busy signal" when you are trying to access such materials. Alternatively, you may be required to submit a password, a PIN number, or some other kind of authorization to assure the system that you are a legitimate user of these materials.

Once enrolled as a student, you should make sure that you understand the limits and requirements of accessing these electronic materials.
