Desktop Virus Protection
In spite of centralized efforts to
stop all email viruses before they get into campus computers, viruses can spread
in other ways (like contaminated floppies, CD's or Zip Disks or through the
Internet) and can get past this line of defense. For this reason, every
computer user should make sure that they are running the latest and greatest in
desktop virus protection software. All Windows users should
also make sure that they have applied the most recent Windows Security Updates.
If you go to the Windows Update site it will scan your computer and allow
you to download the specific patches you need.
You can also configure your
computer to download and apply these patches automatically.

Faculty and Staff
Wesleyan currently has a site
license for Symantec AntiVirus software. It comes installed on
all new computers, but must be updated on a regular basis. Once installed
and connected to our central Symantec virus-protection server, all updates will
occur automatically.
Students
Symantec AntiVirus software is
available free to all students. Simply pick up an installation CD from the
Help Desk on the ground floor of Science Tower. Our site license includes
free updates so this software should always be fully current to find and
eliminate viruses on your computer. This software is available for both
PCs and Macs.
