Virtual Private Networking (VPN) at Wesleyan
VPN (Virtual Private Network) software provides a way of connecting a computer (or group of
computers) in an off-campus location to the Wesleyan network via the Internet in
a secure (encrypted) and authenticated (password-protected) manner.
Wesleyan's network is shielded against threats and
intrusions that may come from the
Internet. For this reason, Wesleyan faculty, staff and students may not be
able to access certain protected systems from home or other off-campus
locations. (This includes the Wesleyan wood-frame houses since they are
not on the campus fiber-optic network.) Running VPN on your
computer allows you log into the Wesleyan network environment and receive the same level of security access that
you would have on campus.
