FrontPage Components

FrontPage contains components that can make your pages more interactive.  Some of these components require that you publish your page to a FrontPage enabled server before they will work while others will work on any web server.  Many of these templates are available through the templates and wizards.  All are available by directly inserting them onto your page.

Date and Time

• puts the modification date and time on the page
• allows end users to see that the page is being maintained
• changes every time a save is issued on the page

Comment

• allows you to comment your code
• will show up as purple text in FrontPage
• will not show up when page is viewed with a browser

Banner Ads

• rotates 2 or more pictures in a space to create an animated presentation
• Insert/Components/Banner Ad Manager
  
• set Height and Width of the space
• use the drop down to select the Transition effect
• select time for each picture to be displayed
• Browse to select a url for the banner to link to (only one for the banner - not one per picture)
• use Add to choose the pictures
• use Move Up and Move Down to order the graphics
• display this in multiple browsers to see differences

Hit Counter

• shows how many visits your page receives
• will be incremented with every visit or reload
• Insert/Component/Hit Counter
  
• use radio button to choose Counter Style
• check Reset counter to box to set beginning count
• check Fixed number of digits box to set size of number
• page needs to be saved and displayed in a browser

Hover Buttons

• graphic buttons on a page change when a visitor passes the mouse over them
• buttons can also trigger a sound
• Insert/Component/Hover Button
  
• choose the Button text and its Font properties
• Browse to choose where to Link the button to
• Button color - color that displays when a visitor is not mousing over the button
• Background color - buttons background
• Effect - reaction to happen upon mouse over
• Effect color - what color will glow or bevel....
• Height and Width - button size in pixels
• Custom
  
• Browse to choose an au file (does not work with wav) to play on click or on hover
• Browse to choose an image to be the Button background or an image displayed On hover
  
  
  

Marquees

•  
• puts scrolling text on your screen
• only available in Internet Explorer
• Insert/Component/Marquees
  
• Text - text that will scroll
• Direction - default is scroll left to right
• Speed - delay- how often it moves (milliseconds) amount- distance moved (pixels)
• Behavior scroll- message moves until screen is blank
                slide- marquees is never blank
                alternate - switches between scroll and slide
• Align with text - vertical alignment of the text
• Size - height and width of marquees in pixels or percent of open window
• Repeat - continuously or a set number of repetitions
• Background color - background color (remember text is always black)

Include Page

• include data in your web page 
• similar to a shared footer, but can be anywhere on the page
• create a page with data to be shared on your page
• in folder list, right click and choose New page
• put data on the page and save it (as include.html)
• in original page select Insert/Component/Include Page
  
• Browse to select the page you created (include.html)
• press OK

• every change made to the included page will show up automatically

Scheduled Image

• schedule the inclusion or exclusion of an image on your page
• Insert/Component/Scheduled Picture
  
• Browse for picture
• Browse for picture to display before and after time limits
• set Starting time
• set Ending time
  
  

Scheduled Page

• schedule the inclusion or exclusion of another page on your current page
• Insert/Component/Scheduled Include Page
  
• Browse for page (include.html for testing)
• Browse for page to display before and after time limits
• set Starting time
• set Ending time
• press OK

Substitution

• you can place predefined parameters on your pages
• you can change all of the pages with one update
• set the predefined parameters with Tools/Web Settings
• choose the Parameters tab
  
• Add - add new values that you name and define
• Modify - edit an existing name/value pair
• Remove - delete a name/value pair
• Press OK
• Return to your original page
• Insert/Component/Substitution
  
• use the drop down to choose the name/value pair you want on the page
• every time you change the value in the Tools/Web Settings this data will change

Autolinks

• you can categorize you web pages and then display the pages within a category
• each page can be categorized with page properties
• right click on the page and select the Workgroup tab
  
• use the checkboxes to choose Available categories or select Categories to define your own
• press OK
• to add a list of all pages to your current page
• Insert/Component/Categories
  
• use checkbox to choose the category you want to see
• save page and view in browser to display
  

Search Form

• add a text search for all or part of your web
• results are listed with links to the page
• Insert/Component/Search Form
  
• Label for Input - name of search form
• Width in characters - defines size of input box displayed
• Label for Start Search button - name on search box
• Label for Clear button - name on clear/reset button
• Search Results tab - defines results layout
  
• Word list to search: - All default so all folders in web except _filenames
• you can put particular folder names here
• Date format - if display date chosen - define format
• Time format - if display date chosen - define format
• check box to display score, date or size

Table of Contents

• lists all of the pages on your linked to from a defined first page
• Insert/Component/Table of Contents

• Heading font size: - size of text for display
• Options - use checkbox to choose
• Press OK
• list of linked pages will appear on page
• pages are listed in order found
• save page and view with a browser
