All changes will be saved directly onto the server. There is no
need to use the Publish Web option when creating and editing on the
server. You may be concerned about others being able to view your
work in progress, but it is highly unlikely someone will find your
page if it is not linked to anything. You could also rename your
index.html file, so users would get an error if they actually tried
to access the URL.
Publishing from your
Hard Drive
If you have created a web saved to your hard drive, you will need
to use FrontPage’s Publish Web option. You must be careful when
using this option as it is easy to inadvertently overlay files.
Some things to do before publishing
- Make sure you know your condor password.
- Save all changes to files you have made, as they must be saved
separately so changes will be reflected when you publish your
web.
- Make sure the first page of your web is named index.html.
- All files must be in the folder containing your web or you
will receive error messages that they cannot be found when you
attempt to publish.
Publishing Personal Pages
- Choose Publish Web
- When prompted to specify your location to publish your web,
type: ftp://condor.wesleyan.edu/public_html
Note: You don’t need to specify your home directory.
FrontPage assumes your directory based on your username and
password.
- You will be prompted for your username and password and must
enter your username and condor password. Your condor
password is often different from your e-mail password.
Publishing Departmental Pages
- Choose Publish Web
- When prompted to specify your location to publish your web,
type: ftp://frontpage.wesleyan.edu:
Note: You don’t need to specify the department’s
directory. FrontPage assumes the directory based on your username
and password.
- You will be prompted for the departmental username and
password.
