Books in the Art Library:
To look for books in the Art Library, you can use the online catalog or you can browse in the stacks.
Searching on the
online catalog for art books brings up not only books physically located in the Art Library, but art books in other libraries in Wesleyan's system. It will also show holdings in Connecticut and Trinity College's collections. The key to browsing in the book stacks is knowing how the
Library of Congress (L.C.) classification system works. The most common classifications in the Art Library are N (art in general), NA (architecture), NB (sculpture), NC (drawing), ND (painting), NK (decorative arts), NX (arts), and TR
(photography). If you're looking for books on drawing, you'll want to look in
the NC section, both regular size and oversize. If you're looking for books on
architects, check the NA section in the regular, oversize and reference
collections. The same would hold true if you're browsing in the Olin stacks.
Periodicals - Current and Bound:
Current
There is a non-circulating collection of current periodicals
shelved along the south wall of the reference area. The periodicals
are arranged alphabetically by title.
Bound
Because of space constraints in the building, all of the Art
Library's bound journals are now shelved in Olin's stacks.
