To find books, movies, music CDs, journal
titles, etc.
I'm looking for a specific book, movie, CD, etc:
I'm looking for any books, movies, CDs, etc:
Tips to find movies:
- Limit by item type: In the Wesleyan Library Catalog, select the "Set
Limits" option. In "Location/Item Type," scroll down and click to select
one of the following, then search for a title, director, etc. For a list
of all movies, do a "General Keyword" search for "videorecording" in the
title field.
- Videos and DVD (ALL)
- Science Library - DVD
- Science Library - Videocassette

Finding Multimedia Resources
Caleb: the Wesleyan Library Catalog lists all
books, videos, sound recordings, journals, and other holdings in the Wesleyan
library. It does not list all the contents of all of these items, however. For
example, titles of articles in journals are not included. If you search for books etc on a specific narrow topic and do
not find anything, search for a broader topic and you will likely find books
that include a chapter or section on your narrower topic.
Specific Item Search in the Library Catalog: search for a title of a
specific book, all books by a particular author, browse a list of Library of
Congress Subject Headings or a range of call numbers (which are organized by
subject), and other focused searches. On the Specific Search screen enter
what you want to Find, then click to Select Search to indicate
what it is you are looking for (title, author, call number, etc). You can also
Set Limits on your search to find only audio or video recordings, or to
materials in one specific library on campus. For more tips, see the guide to
Finding Books; see also the guide to
Searching Online Databases.
General Keyword Search in the Library Catalog: search for books on a
particular topic, or for titles, authors, or subject headings if you know only a
part or a few words of the title or author's name etc. A Keyword search
will find your search term(s) anywhere in a record: title, author, notes,
subject, etc. Once you find books on your topic, use the subject headings to
find more books on that topic, or search for other books by that author. You can
search for all of these terms to find all records which include all of
the search terms anywhere in the record; as a phrase to find all records
with this exact phrase; or any of these to find records which include at
least one of the search terms. You can also Set Limits on your search to
find only audio or video recordings, or to materials in one specific library on
campus. For more tips, see the guide to
Finding Books; see also the guide to
Searching Online Databases.
WorldCat: WorldCat is a combined catalog of
most books (videos, sound recordings, etc) in most libraries in the United
States and many other libraries around the world. If a book has been published
and cataloged by a library, it is probably listed here. Enter the term(s) you
want to Search for and select which field to search, such as Keyword,
Author, Title, Subject. Keyword is the most general search,
and will find all records with your search terms anywhere in the record. For
items not at Wesleyan or at Trinity or Conn Colleges, you can click to "Order
this item using Illiad" if you have an
Illiad interlibrary
loan account. For more tips, see the Help options in
WorldCat; see also the guide to Searching
Online Databases.
