RESERVE CIRCULATION POLICIES
CHECKING OUT RESERVE ITEMS:
Items 'on reserve' and available at a reserve desk are listed in the CTW catalog under the Course Reserve
tab. If you have difficulty locating a reserve item, the attendant at
the Reserve Desk or Circulation Desk can help you.
- At the Art and Olin Reserve Desks, when asking for an item, please state:
- 1) Library call number for books and videos or
- 2) Course Number and Author for photocopied articles and personal
items.
-
- In the Science Library, please state:
- 1) Author and title for books (including personal copies)
- 2) Course number and author for photocopied articles
-
- In the Music Library, which primarily handles reserve recordings,
although associated photocopies and scores may be placed on reserve, please
state:
- 1) Course number, professor and tape number/letter
- 2) Call number, if applicable
Reserve materials circulate only on presentation of a valid Wesleyan ID
card. An expired ID may not be used. Only two reserve items may be checked out at
the same time. Reserve materials may be renewed twice, in person only. However,
items in heavy demand may not be renewed.
Always check the date due to see what date and time the item is due back
or ask the attendant when the item is due. If you have any questions about
the due time and/or date shown, ask the desk attendant at once. Although some
reserve materials are not stamped with a date/time due, you are still
responsible for knowing when your item is due. Items must be returned to the
Reserve Desk from which they were borrowed.
Your library patron record will display the due date/time of Reserve
items that are charged to your id. Click here to
view your circulation records.
OVERNIGHT BORROWING of RESERVE ITEMS:
Except as noted below, reserve items may generally be borrowed for overnight use.
Overnight borrowing privileges become effective when the reserve desk is
scheduled to close before what would be the normal calculated due date/time for the loan
period of the item. The system will automatically calculate the
appropriate due date/time for overnight borrowing.
- At the Art Library, personal copies of books do not circulate
overnight.
- At the Music Library, reserve recordings may not be checked out for
overnight use.
EXTENDED BORROWING of RESERVE ITEMS:
If you wish to keep reserve materials out longer than the usual period of
time, at Olin you must present a note signed by the professor who put the
item on reserve. At the other libraries please ask a staff person for
assistance. When a reserve item with an extended loan becomes overdue, the fine
will be computed in the usual manner for reserve materials.
Items on reserve that are not being used for a course during the current
semester may be checked out for a longer period of time or until needed by reserves.
Contact reserve staff for
special borrowing. As always items must be returned to the Reserve desk
from which they were borrowed. Fines will be computed for an item not returned by the time it is
needed for reserves.
OVERDUE and/or LOST RESERVE ITEMS:
You are responsible for any reserve item charged out on your ID card until
the item is checked in at the reserve desk from which you borrowed the item.
Olin Reserve materials must be returned to the Reserve Desk located on
the first floor in Olin. When Olin is closed, Reserve materials may be left in
the book return at the main entrance to Olin.
At the Art, Music, and Science Libraries, reserve materials
must be returned directly to the respective circulation desk. Please hand them
to the clerk.
OVERDUE FINE RATES for ALL RESERVE ITEMS:
- $.60 / hour
- $50.00 maximum overdue fine / item
Overdue notices are sent weekdays, Monday-Friday. Fines are imposed for
late returns. Fine/Fee notices are emailed each time a fine/fee is
generated and the total balance in your library account is at least
$10.00. Additionally if a reserve item is not returned within three days
of its due date, the system will apply a 'lost' status to the item and your
library account will be billed the maximum overdue fine ($50), plus the standard
Fine/Fee for a lost/stolen item as indicated below. Once your library
account reaches $100 you are blocked from some library privileges.
Your library patron record displays fines and fees posted to your
Library account that have not yet been sent to the
Student Account office. Click here to
access your library account information.
PAYMENT of LIBRARY FINES/FEES:
Payment of library fines/fees is via your Student Account. If the total
balance of your fines/fees prior to the last 28 days is greater than $10.00
these fines/fees will be sent to your Student Account during the first week of
each month.
LOST or STOLEN RESERVE ITEMS (FINES/FEES):
Standard Replacement & Processing Fee for Lost Items:
- $50 (minimum) per item replacement fee plus
- $35 per item non-refundable processing fee
As mentioned above under Overdue Fine Rates... once a reserve item is
more than 3 days overdue, the system applies a 'lost status' and in addition
to the ($50) maximum overdue charge, the standard ($50 minimum) replacement
and ($35) processing fines/fees for a lost item are billed to your library
account.
If the reserve item is returned within six weeks of the
original billing date, the replacement & processing fee will be either forgiven
in your library account or refunded via your student account. After six weeks,
replacement refunds will be given only if the library needs another copy of
the item in question.
