Historical NoteClass Day was an annual celebration related to the commmencement exercises at Wesleyan University, and usually occurred in June. Programs often included speeches, musical performances, poetry, and the awarding of prizes. The programs were arranged by members of the graduating class and featured their fellow senior students. Return to the Table of Contents Collection OverviewThe Class Day Programs include programs for every year between 1864 and 1935 except 1881 (includes invitations but no programs), 1886, 1891, 1918, 1927, 1930, 1931, and 1933. Multiple copies and other items (like invitations) are noted in the finding aid. The style of the programs and their typography change radically over the years, indicating stylistic trends. Of particular interest are the dual programs in 1906, 1907, and 1909 for men and women. In other years, evidence of women's participation during Class Day is scant.
