Wesleyan theses and dissertations in the library collections fall into four main groups:
Click on the name of any group for more information, including catalog access and number of copies. Additional queries about theses and dissertations are most efficiently answered by Special Collections & Archives staff.
In summary, one archival copy of each thesis and dissertation is received by SC&A, where it is treated as a manuscript. It does not circulate and must be read in the SC&A reading room. Photocopies, except for small non-consecutive portions, are made only with the author's written permission, which SC&A will pursue upon request.
Second copies of most cataloged graduate theses may be found in collections. Additionally, a microfilm of each Ph.D. dissertation is kept in the Microforms Center. There may be additional uncataloged copies elsewhere on the campus, in department offices or with thesis advisers.
Wesleyan has awarded masters' degrees since 1892 and Ph.D.s since 1965; the first honors theses date from the 1930s.The online catalog includes records for all graduate theses and dissertations beginning with degrees awarded in 1979; some earlier ones that have been recataloged may also appear there. Honors theses are not represented online.
