Link
to another page: If
you are linking to a page or an image that is already in your Web (which
will be listed in the dialog box), just click on the name of the page, and
the name will appear in the URL box. Or, erase the "http://"
part and type in the file name (such as links.html) in the URL box.
If the page is somewhere else in your computer, use the "Look
in" box to browse folders to find it.
If you are linking to some page out there on the Web, such as the home
page for Wesleyan University or Google
or The Flaming
Pop-Tart Experiment, type in the URL in the URL box (if it is a long
URL, you can copy and paste it from your browser window).
Email
link: You can
also create a "mail to" link by clicking on the envelope icon by
the URL box. This will bring up a dialog box in which you can type an
email address. When someone clicks on the link, it will automatically
generate an outgoing email addressed to the specified recipient.
Link
to a specific location on a page: In
addition to linking to another page, you can create links to different
parts of the same page, or to a specific location on another page. For
example, you can make a table of contents section at the top of a long
page with links directly to those sections of the page.
Look
under "Insert" on the main menu for "Bookmark." In the
dialog box that pops up, type in a name for your bookmark.
Then when you bring up the "Create Link" dialog box,
any bookmarks on the page will be listed in the "Boodmark:" box.
Click on the down arrow for a list of all bookmarks on the page, then
click on the one you want to link to. If you type in another page in the
"URL" box, any bookmarks on that page will be listed in the
"Bookmark" box and you can link to a specific location on that
other page.
And, that's pretty much all you need to know to make links. You can
also make links from images, but since you need to know how to use images
first, instructions for that are included on the images
page, which, conveniently, is the next page. |
