Finding Information on the Web

The Internet is an important source of research for scholars of all types. Often, it is easy to find a few sites with useful information for a given topic. However, a page's existence on the Internet is no guarantee that its contents are reliable. Also, it is easy to be overwhelmed by thousands of pages resulting from a search, to find nothing relevant, or to miss sites that would be significant for your research.

To efficiently use the Internet for academic research, it is helpful to know how the Internet works, the different methods of searching, and how to evaluate the relevance and reliability of what you find. This tutorial presents techniques and resources for successfully using the Web for academic research.
