The Book in Antiquity
Professor Sider spoke about books, book collectors and libraries in ancient Greece and
Rome. In particular, he discussed the library of Greek philosophical texts found buried in
Herculaneum by the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in AD79 and the work of modern scholars
to open and read partially burned texts.
