Adding Styles to Your Folder
EndNote offers hundreds of citation styles for you to choose from. Make sure you find out from a responsible individual (e.g. the professor who gave you the assignment, the journal to which you are submitting your article) what style you should use.
The folder default for styles lists 4 different options. There are many others. You need to decide which format you need to use (e.g., MLA, APA, or a particular journal style).
-
To select a particular style, open your library in EndNote
-
Click Edit in the main menu, and under Output Styles click to Open Style Manager
-
Scroll to find the style you want. There are more than 700 available, including styles from many journals.
-
Click to highlight a style for information about the style, including a sample preview of what the style looks like.
-
Click the check box to add it to the list of styles available in Word.

You can also edit the styles using the edit button on the style browser. For example, you can specify that you want abbreviations used for journal titles.
-
Choose the edit button with your style selected and you will get the dialog box seen below.
-
Choose the element you want to change and make the changes from the available options to the right

You can even create your own styles by choosing New Style from the Output Styles options in the Edit menu.
