Search and Borrow from Other Libraries
Searching for items to borrow from other libraries
WorldCat - this is the best way to find books to borrow from another libraries. Once you find the book you want to borrow, choose the "Request" button to place an InterLibrary Loan or CTW request for the item. (Please note: This is for books only. It can be difficult to borrow vidoes, music, or sound recordings from other WorldCat libraries. However you can easily borrow video, music and sound recordings from Connecticut College and Trinity College.)
Library OneSearch - when you find an article in Library OneSearch that the library does not subscribe to, just click "Request through InterLibrary Loan" to place a request for the item.
Article Indexes and Databases - if you search an individual article index or database (such as JSTOR) and find an article that does not show full text, click the button to see if the library subscribes to the article in full text or in print. If we do not subscribe, then select "InterLibrary Loan: Submit a request" to request the article through ILL.
How we borrow from other libraries - CTW vs. ILL
- books owned by Wesleyan, Trinity College or Connecticut College should be requested through the CTW catalog
- books owned by any other library should be requested through ILL
- all articles should be requested through ILL
We are a member of the CTW Consortium with Connecticut College and Trinity College. The CTW consortium allows consortium members to borrow books, videos, and sound recordings from the other libraries.
You can also go in person to Connecticut College or Trinity College Libraries and borrow from them using your Wesleyan ID OR place a request for items through the library catalog. When you request an item from a CTW library and the item is available, you can often receive it within 48 hours.
To request items from CTW, search for the item in Library OneSearch or the CTW Library Catalog, click the item title, then select the Request button. Click Request again. Login with your WesID and last name.
InterLibrary Loan (ILL)
We borrow books, articles, documents, microforms, videos and sound recordings from many libraries around the world. Although most items can be obtained within two weeks, it is impossible to know how long it might take to receive an item you request through InterLibrary Loan, so plan ahead.
ILL articles will be delivered to you electronically. You will be notified by email when an article is available for you to download from your ILL account.
Books will be held in the ILL office on the first floor of Olin. You will be notified by email when a book is available to pick up from the ILL office.
