Course Reserves

The library's reserves office can put items on reserve for students in your course either:

  • in physical format at our Olin, Music, or Art reserve desk
  • online through our e-Reserves (E-res) system

If you want to re-use a reserve list you have used for a course at Wesleyan in the past, please contact the Reserves staff and they can work from the past reserve list to create the reserves for your course.

To submit a new reserve request, please complete the steps described here.

Research instruction for your students

Consultation on assignments activities: In addition to or instead of standard research papers, there are many types of assignments and activities for which students can systematically learn how to use a variety of research sources while also learning course content. Also, see our guide on Integrating Information Literacy into the Curriculum.

In-class library instruction: If you believe your students might benefit from a demonstration of how to use library resources or guidance in the research process, we will set up special instructional sessions for your class. Additional courses may be created at your request. Contact your library liaison for more information about this.

Instruction using primary source materials: Librarians in Special Collections & Archives offer class sessions focused on primary source materials held in our collections. These sessions are tailored to meet the needs of the class, such as the history of the book, or performing effective research using primary sources at Wesleyan and elsewhere. Contact Special Collections & Archives at x3864 to arrange for a class session, or email Suzy Taraba, University Archivist, staraba@wesleyan.edu.

Personal research help: Refer your students to the library for an appointment with a librarian to work on a particular research project. This allows us to work with your students one-on-one, on their schedule, and concentrate on their particular needs.

Online research guides: Librarians will, at your request, design research guides for specific courses which describe Wesleyan Library and internet resources that would be useful for students in that class. Contact your library liaison for more information about this.

Library liaisons to academic departments

This program provides each faculty member with a personal contact among the professional librarians to help convey information about library resources and services and to whom library-related issues and questions may be addressed. These librarians might work with faculty members, for example, to find and use databases relevant to their research, discuss possible class presentations, or introduce new procedures such as submitting scholarly output to WesScholar.

See the list of librarian liaisons to academic departments to find out whom to contact with library-related questions.

Course Reserves

We can put your course materials on reserve at the Art or Olin library reserve desk, online through our e-reserves system (ERes), or both.  To submit items for reserve, fill out our online Course Reserve Request Forms.  Please give us adequate lead time so your readings will be ready when your students need them.
