Improvements 2008

Below is a list of technical modifications and improvements made during the summer of 2008 in the LRC:

- installation of iMacs in the computer lab of the LRC. Fifteen iMacs8,1 with built in cameras were installed in the computer lab of the LRC.

- New hardware was acquired for the Project Room in order to bring it up to date and make production of electronic materials easier and faster. A more detailed description of the current configuration of the Project Room is available on the Facilities page.

Improvements 2007

Below is a list of technical modifications and improvements made during the summer of 2007 in the LRC:

- renovation of the recording studio. The old soundproofing material on the walls of the recording room was replaced by new one.

- addition of an iMac to the multipurpose room. The eMac in the multipurpose room was replaced by a new iMac with a built in camera to be used by students of the ASL classes for video recording of their home assignments.

-installation of new PC's in the computer lab of the LRC. 16 new Intel Pentium D Dell PC computers were installed in the computer room of the LRC.

-installation of Macintosh MacMinis in the computer lab of the LRC. 5 Macintosh MacMinis were installed in the computer lab of the LRC for the five dual Mac/PC computer stations.

Improvements 2004

Below is a list of technical modifications and improvements made during the summer of 2004 in the LRC:

- conversion of the viewing room into a multipurpose room. The room is divided by two moveable partitions to separate the teaching space from the working space where students can work on one computer station. The teaching space of the room has a cart equipped with an LCD 50 inch TV. The TV can display a VHS video, a DVD, or the computer included in the cart, or a laptop.

- repair and upgrade of the recording studio. A recording studio computer and a Berhinger sound mixer have been added to the set.

- addition of an Emac in the multipurpose room to be used by the students of the ASL classes for video recording of their home assignments.

- archiving of digitized work and organization of holdings. Digitized materials are stored on CD's in slim cases with labels on them for easy identification. Most of our holdings are organized on the LRC web site by language and media type. Now an electronic catalog of our holdings is in the process of development. The catalog will be searchable and linked to the library’s main catalog.

Improvements 2003

Below is a list of technical modifications and improvements made during the summer of 2003 in the LRC:

- addition of an Emac in the FDS to be used mainly as a scanning station for images and OCR.

- repair and update of the recording studio to enable for digital recordings. An recording studio dedicated computer will be purchased soon.

- purchase of additional language software and other materials (books, dictionaries)

- digitization of more of the audio collection and some of the video collection.

- purchase of additional development software such a DVD pro studio to enable the creation of professional DVD and update of other software.

Improvements 2002

Below is a list of technical modifications and improvements made during the summer 2002 in the LRC:

- The older beige Macintosh G3s were replaced by new G4 Imacs.

- The middle row was set up with dual platform workstations so the room has 16 PCs and 20 Macs. More information is available on the Facilities page.

- More language software was purchased. Some software is available through the network, some is only availble in the lab and some others, like DVD based software, needs to be checked out and used in the LRC.

- New hardware was acquired for the Faculty Development Site in order to bring it up to date and make production of electronic materials easier and faster.

- See also the Many rooms in Fisk Hall that have been upgraded by ITS to the "multimedia" level which means a PC, Mac or a zone free DVD and multistandard videos can be projected.
