Importing sound from an audio CD for on line use |
1. importing the audio files into the computer using iTunes
Before you start, it is important to set the destination
folder for the imported files.
From the menu bar, choose Edit > Preferences > Advanced. Click the "change"
button in the music Folder Location box and choose a folder or create a new
one. Unless it is changed, all files will now go into this folder.
Note: It is important to create a new destination
folder for each CD (eg: "vorsprungCD5") in order to avoid having several
tracks named "track 01" for example in the same folder- it will save
you a lot of time afterwards. Probably the best way to do this is to create
a folder that wil include all of your project: eg: a folder called German that
will include your imported files and another one with your files ready for online
use
To import the tracks from the CD, go into the menu bar, choose : File > Add
to Library. You will be prompted to "choose object", select the CD
and click choose. iTunes will immediately start importing files and play them
(you will see an orange button in front of the track it is importing and it
will turn green when done).
2. Preparing the files for use on line
iTunes will change the files in mp3s, but for our purpose,
we will obtain better compression and delivery results by changing them in quicktime
movies. This requires the use of Media Cleaner pro 5.
Note: because of the time required for compressing and because you cannot work
on the computer while files are being processed, it is a good idea to process
many files as possible in the same session and let the computer do the work
after you leave.
Open Media Cleaner. If there are files in the window, select them all (click the first and shift-click the last) and press delete.
Find the folder in which all your files are compressed and drag them all in the Media Cleaner window. You will notice that the bar at the top of the window has several columns including "Setting", "Destination", and "Status".
As with iTunes, it is important to set a destination folder for the files to go when they are processed. To do this, choose Batch > Set default destination and create a new folder using the New folder icon.
Now, you need to choose how you are going to process the
files.
Select all the files (click the first and shift-click the last) and choose Window
> Settings Wizard. The wizard will make the complicated setting adjustments
for you based upon the answers you give in the pages.
- Check the WWW box then click "continue"
- Choose Quicktime then click "continue"
- Choose Progressive Streaming (high quality) then click "continue"
- Choose T1, Cable Modem .. then click "continue"
- Choose Audio most important and leave Soundtrack Contains Range of Materials
on then click "continue"
- Do not choose anything on this page then click "continue", leave
Normalize audio on and click "continue"
- On this last page change Channels to Stereo and click finish - your files
are now ready to be processed.
- Press the play button at the bottom of the window and ... wait !
Note: Because these files are destined to
be used on the web, Media Cleaner creates a web page for each file and links
need to be made to these web pages. For more info, visit the "Creating
and updating web pages with Golive" page.
