The proposed project as 41 Wyllys Avenue will renovate and expand the
former squash building into classrooms and faculty offices as
illustrated on the attached floor plans. The proposed building will
include a seventeen foot addition to the west increasing the building
size from 13,000 to 21,000 gross square feet. Plans are for the Career
Resource Center to occupy the south half of the first floor and a new
second floor mezzanine level in a prominent and very open space plan.
Five classrooms and a conference room will occupy the remainder of the
first floor and will replace inaccessible classrooms in the Davison Art
Center and the Butterfields. The College of Letters and the Art History
Departements will be sharing the third floor in a more efficient and
accessible configuration which includes shared spaces for administrative
support, a conference room and student work areas. Improvements to the
existing loading dock area are planned which will replace the overhead
doors with something more architectural and improve the overall
aesthetics for first impressions from Wyllys Avenue. The project scope
includes a new energy efficient mechanical system, reconfiguration of
interior spaces, new finishes, fixtures and furniture. This renovation
will be constructed to LEED (Leadership in Environmental and Energy
Design) Silver standards with the hopes of achieving LEED Gold status.
Construction has begun and a grand reopening is scheduled for the
January 2012 semester.
