60th Anniversary 2012-2013

During our 60th Anniversary Year, we celebrated with 5 unique events, numerous meet-up opportunities, the formation of a Steering Committee, a compilation of student and alumni writings, the building of a GLS alumni database and more.

Program graduate and former assistant director Peter Buttenheim MALS '69 has written a great profile of the program's early days. Read the Profile Here!

How we celebrated

Our August ARTS Kickoff event was a huge success! Visit the Facebook photo gallery the online gallery of works by student and alumni that were showcasesd at the event.

During October's Homecoming weekend, we celebrated SOCS with an open reading of MPhil '12 recipient Linda Pilz Napoletano's thesis work, An Eye for an Eye about hate crime survivor Rais Bhuiyan. Rais visited campus, and gave a WESeminar about his experience and his organization World Without Hate.

SCIE got its due in December with an Evening Under the Stars. Over 80 alumni, current students, faculty, and guests packed into the Van Vleck Observatory to hear a lecture, view Jupiter, and watch the Geminid Meteor Shower.

On 3.14 we celebrated Pi Day in style. Professor Philip Brown gave a brief talk on probability, and then we played games of chance and used our 'winnings' to vote for the best Pie. Congratulations to current student Noelle Shipley on the winning pie!

Finally, on Wednesday, May 22nd we celebrated 60 years of Graduate Liberal Studies at Wesleyan University. We hosted an evening of readings from our compilation in honor of Anne Greene, followed by an elegant reception, catered by our friends at Cafe 56. This event was the 5th in our 60th anniversary series, and celebrated our Humanities concentration.
