If I do not pay my outstanding student account balance, will I still be able to graduate?

Only students with a zero balance as of the end of the day on May 7, 2014. will be able to receive their diploma at commencement activities. The best way to avoid a charge against your student account is to return your library books on time and avoid a fine! Please note that no requests for letters of completion from the GLS office will be honored until student accounts are paid in full. Students are strongly encouraged to check their student account through the Student Account link in their e-portfolio before the May 7, 2014 deadline and make necessary payment. The quickest way to submit payment is through the secure e-Billing link in the student e-portfolio.

I forgot to purchase my cap and gown from Broad Street Books. What do I do?

Broad Street Books will be open commencement weekend (Saturday May 24, 9:00 AM - 8:00 PM, Sunday May 26, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM) so you can pick up your cap, gown, and hood at the last minute if supplies are still available. These items will go on sale at the end of March, and are available on a first-come, first-served basis, so you are more likely to find your size if you order early. The bookstore's telephone number is 860-685-7323.

When will I receive my diploma?
You will receive your diploma at the GLS reception following the commencement ceremony. For those graduates who are unable to come to campus on that day, diplomas will be mailed out to the address on record by the middle of June 2014. Your official transcript will also be mailed at this time.

Where do we meet on Sunday, May 25, 2014, to participate in the University-wide commencement?
GLS students should meet no later than 9:00 am at Downey House, 294 High Street (on the corner of Court and High Streets) in preparation for the procession. GLS staff will assist you in donning regalia and will show you how to wear your hood. We will line you up in alphabetical order so you can reassemble in that order on Foss Hill. You will fill out a card detailing the correct pronunciation of your name. We will use this guide to publicly announce your name from the commencement podium.

Will there be a coat check or storage area to leave my personal belongings during commencement?
No. Students are encouraged to leave their personal belongings with family members or friends during the ceremony.

Are tickets needed for the commencement ceremony on Andrus Field?
No. This event is open to the public. Tickets are not needed but please plan ahead to ensure that your family and friends are able to get a good seat.

What kind of seating is provided on commencement day?
There is limited seating available under the tent, and unlimited space on Foss Hill to spread out your blanket or set up your folding chairs.

What if it rains on commencement day?
The ceremony will be moved from out on the open field to under the tent behind the seats on Andrus Field. This tent will accommodate many spectators, however seating is limited. In this case, we respectfully ask that you reduce the number of guests who will be sitting under the tent to three. Please come prepared with raincoats and umbrellas. The ceremony will also be broadcast live (rain or shine) inside air-conditioned, handicapped accessible spaces on campus and via webcam online. Please go to http://wescast.wesleyan.edu for details about how you can view the ceremony.

Who is the speaker?
Speakers will be announced in April and announced on the Reunion Commencement site.

How long is the ceremony?
The ceremony will last approximately 2 hours.

How long will the GLS reception last?
The GLS reception will last approximately 1 hour.
