Program History
For over a decade Wesleyan has celebrated the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The celebration has taken various forms from prominent key note speakers such as Johnetta Cole and Sonia Sanchez to a campus based program where members of faculty, staff and students read portions of Dr. King's "I Have a Dream" speech.
In 2008, this website was begun and we started an archive of past speakers below:
2008: Dr. Bernice Johnson Reagon
2009: Dr. Robert J. Bullard
2010: Dr. Jason G. Irizarry
2011: Geoffrey Canada
2012: Nilda Perichi '79
In 2006, the MLK Planning committee created a display of Civil Rights Landmarks which is displayed in Zelnick Pavillion the week before the day long celebration. This year, the committee is interested in adding additional displays and invites Wesleyan University students, faculty and staff to submit ideas of events that they feel are significant to the Civil Rights movement. Please contact Cathy Lechowicz for more information.
