Make a Commercial

Research: Students must
brainstorm an idea to develop into a commercial.
Suggested ideas: to sell a book you have read to your classmates, to
promote an upcoming event at school, advertising a ball game to be
played at your school, selling an 'invention', advertising your
favorite TV show, or running for class office....advertise
yourself.
Goal: To
introduce the organization of a commercial in a storyboard format.In
each of the boxes the student will draw their backgrounds, import
graphics use the Kid Pix satmps,, clip art, photos, and finally type,
using the typewriter tool, their commercial.
Objectives:
Procedure:
1. Students will use the 'Commercial Planning Form' that accompanies
this sheet.
2. Students will select a product idea and develop an organized slide
show.
3.Teacher will introduce the program, Kid Pix, to entire class
using
projection device, detailing with an example of a well developed
screen..
4. Students are ready to go to the computers, in pairs or groups of
threes, to work
from their planning forms.
5. Students will develop each screen, filling out drawings, and
writing in the text.
6.As the students continue to design and write,planning forms can be
changed,
updated, and refined.
7. As students complete their planning forms, keep in their
folder.
8. Complete final activity with a Share Day using a
projection device and invite other classes.
9. Students made up a list of criteria in which they followed and
will be evaluated.
Related Activities:
Kid Pix is a multimedia program that can be used in any
activity where sequential ideas and supporting, narratives, research
notes or any type of organization is utilized.
Classes can use Kid Pix as a "Meet Our Class" stack which
could include pictures of each class member, background music, and a
little of personal information about each student. Depending on the
age of the student, will dictate how much can be authored by the
student.
