Books on Greek Mythology from your library.
Research: The class needs
to be reading quite a variety of Greek Mythology. They should make a
list of different characters and their distinct attributes found in
the various myths.
Goal: To introduce the organization and
development of a spreadsheet as a way to display and sort
information.
Objectives:
1. Students will read a large variety of
myths..
2. Students will discuss the characters and their attributes found in
mythology.
3. Students will learn to set up an appropriate spreadsheet
program.
4. Students, in small groups, will enter the data to the class
spreadsheet.
5. Students will learn to classify attributes and sort.
6. Students learn to coordinate and organize ideas.
Procedure:
1. Students will read huge variety of Greek Mythology.
2. Teacher will introduce the program, AppleWorks
(spreadsheet), to entire class
using projection device, detailing with an example of displaying
information in a
spreadsheet.
3. Students will make a list of data on the major characters
(planning) sheet in order to organize ideas and attributes.
4. Students are ready to go to the computers, in pairs to work from
their planning sheets.
5. Students will develop a single spreadsheet entering acquired
data.
6. As the students continue to read and write, spreadsheet can be
updated at any time.
7.Teacher can decide how to sort attributes of the characters.
Related Activities:
This idea can be applied to displaying any type of information.
Classifying rocks and minerals, states, characters in literature,
good books, etc, are just a few ways you can introduce spreadsheet to
your students.
