Title: ABC Book

Grade Level: K-1

Curriculum Area: Language Arts

Tools: Kid Pix Studio Deluxe, all the alphabet books you can gather

Background: Teacher should have helped the students become familiar with this program. They need to have practiced with the drawing and typing tools. Read many alphabet books to your students.

Goal: Students will create a class alphabet book.

Objective: To have each student correctly illustrate a letter with a picture using the corresponding sound.

Procedures:

1. Read and discuss all the alphabet books that you can get together.
2. Decide on what theme your book will have i.e. animals, school items, etc.
3. Each student or pair of students will be assigned a letter or two. Have the student brainstorm an idea that would start with that letter sound and correspond to your theme.
4. Each student makes a rough draft of their picture and the sentence that goes with it. ( ex. A is for apple, in a food ABC book.)
5. The students now come to the computer in whatever scheduling method works best for you. This is a great project for children to work in pairs.
6. The students come to the computer and make their picture, letter, and sentence. ( Make a judgment on how much the student will put on the page depending on their age and the ability.)
7. Print out each page.
8. Collate the pages in order to make a book.

Related Activities:
You can make a slide show using Kid Pix also. The students can use each page to help the class sing the alphabet. You can use this work to help the students make words if you have copies with just the picture and the letter.
