Making a Greeting Card

Grade Level: first

Curriculum Area: Language Arts

Tools: Bailey’s Book House CD or Print Shop Deluxe

Background: Teacher and students should be familiar with the programs. Students should have knowledge of writing text.

Goal: Students will produce a card to give to someone else.

Objective: Each student will use a piece of writing, either prose or poetry to use as text in a card.

Procedure:
1. Brainstorm with the children on what occasions you might receive a card.
2. Discuss why we send cards to others.
3. Talk about how you would write the verse for your card.
4. The students will write a note to someone at school with paper and pencil.
5. Make sure the students know how to use these programs.
6. Have students go to the computer in a schedule that you are comfortable with using.
7. Help the students print out their cards.

Related Activities:
Students can write to authors, family members on their birthdays, or other individuals in the school on special occasions.
