Title: Snowy Days
Grade Level: first
Curriculum Area: language Arts, science, social studies
Tools: Kid Works2 or Kid Pix Studio Deluxe, books on snow (ex.
The Snowy Day ), chart paper, pocket chart and sentence
strips
Background: Teacher and students should be familiar with the
computer program. Many books should be read and discussed about
snow.
Goal: Students will study about snow and plan to tell what
they would do in the snow.
Objective: To have students use the sentence frame, I hope it
snows today, I will make a big snow fort, and make a book and
/or slide show out of it.
Procedures:
1. Discuss what you can do in the snow.
2. Record the class ideas on chart paper.
3. Put these ideas on sentence strips for the pocket chart.
4. Have the students put their idea in the story frame, I hope it
will snow today, I will ___________________ for their rough
draft. I recommend at least four to five sentences.
5. The students read their rough draft sentences to another student
or the teacher so they can edit any mistakes.
6. Students go to the computer as you care to schedule them. Pairs
are a good thing.
7. Students can use Kid Works2 to type their sentences and color the
illustrations at their places. If they use Kid Pix, they can type
their sentences and use the program to make the illustration for one
of their sentences.
8. Make a book with the completed work. With Kid Pix you can make a
slide show. Have the students record themselves reading their
page.
9. Have other students read the new book or view the slide show.
