Title: Sorting with Kid-Pix
Grade Level: K -1
Curriculum Areas: Language Arts and Math
Tools: Kid Pix Studio or Kid Pix Studio Deluxe
Background: Teacher should be familiar with this program. You
will need to set up the page before the youngest children do this
activity. As the children learn how to use this lesson, they can make
up pages for each other.
Goal: Students will begin to sort and then to write a sentence
about what they have done.
Objective: To have a student use the stamping tool and the
moving tool to sort items into two and three categories. For the more
advanced student to write a sentence about the data that they
collected.
Procedure:
1. Start out by making a page for the beginning student
that has two words typed on the Kid Pix page and some stamped
pictures that correspond to the categories.
2. Go over what the stamping tool and the moving tool can do.
3.Have the student put the correct stamps in the correct boxes using
the moving tool.
4.The next step would be to have the student use the stamping tool
and put out more stamps that go with your categories.
5.To make this activity more challenging you can increase the
categories to three.
6. You can also have the student write a sentence about an
observation they can make about the data.
Related Activities: Students can use other sorting games that
you might have in class as well as a paper and pencil follow-up
activity.
