Title: How To Use The Spell Check

Curriculum Areas: Editing Skills

Tools: Computer Program: AppleWorks Mac/Win (teacher made template)

Research: Students must use their editing techniques and use the spell check.

Goal: As part of using writing techniques and any word processing programs, students will learn how to use the spell check.

Objectives:
1. Students will learn to utilize the spell check in AppleWorks.

Procedure:

1. Teacher will type the paragraph found on the accompanying sheet full of mistakes.
   
2. Teacher will introduce the program, AppleWorks (spell check), to entire class using projection device, detailing with an example of a paragraph with spelling errors.
   
3. Teacher can pass out the accompanying sheet with the spell check window on it and as he/she goes over it on the big screen, the students have it in front of them.
   
4. Students are ready to go to the computers and work on their spell check template
   
5. Students will edit the text and using the spell check and revising and refining as necessary.
   
6. Students will proofread each other's poem to check for proper spelling.
   

Related Activities:
Teacher can make a template of any article, poem or even make daily edits that the individual student would have to work on, keeping them in an individual student folder for the teacher to check.
