About the residency, symposium and concerts

From February 7th - February 12th, 2005, Wesleyan will be fortunate to have legendary composer/trumpeter Bill Dixon, Jazz scholar Francesco Martinelli as well as pianist/composer and Macarthur "Genius" grant recipient Ran Blake on the Wesleyan campus for a special week of events dedicated to the study and performance of post-1960s jazz and improvised music.

This exciting week will feature the premiere of a new orchestra work by Mr. Dixon, developed with Wesleyan students in Anthony Braxton's creative orchestra. Jazz scholar Francesco Martinelli will present a music department colloquium, "Trends in European Free Improvised Music 1965-2005," on Feb.9th.

The week culminates with an afternoon symposium and discussion with all participants which will be webcast live, and an evening concert featuring rare solo performances by both Dixon and Blake.

Please join us for these great events.
