Dixon's one-week residency at Wesleyan. Dixon will work with a student
ensemble to create a new orchestra piece especially for this performance.
Bill Dixon is a legend of the 1960s New York avant-garde jazz scene; he
founded the Black Music Division at Bennington College, where he has
taught since the 1970s. Saturday, February 12, 2005, 10:00 AM - 03:30 PM Discussion with Bill Dixon, Ran Blake and Francesco Martinelli on
improvised music and approaches to teaching improvisation. There will be a
break between noon and 1:30pm. Saturday, February 12, 2005, 08:00 PM Two master composers and improvisers come together for a very special
musical evening! Ran Blake has been recording and performing
internationally since the 1960s and is the director of the Contemporary
Improvisation Department of the New England Conservatory of Music. A
legendary pianist who transcends categorization, Blake received a
MacArthur "genius" Fellowship in 1988. Bill Dixon will take the stage for
a very rare solo trumpet performance-his first in the United States in
more than fifteen years. |
