Emily Daus Ferrigno (Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology)

Emily Daus Ferrigno received a B.A. in Music from Grinnell College, and an M.A. in Ethnomusicology from City University in London, England. In her dissertation, she writes about drum 'n' bass, a genre of electronic dance music, and the discourses surrounding sampling practice, authorship, technology and creativity and the music industry.

B.Mus (Hons) from University of Western Australia majoring in composition, M.A. from Wesleyan University in World Music. Peter founded and directs WesWinds, the Wesleyan Wind Ensemble. Interests include didjeridu, steelband, Javanese gamelan, composition, performance and conducting.


 

Marzanna Poplawska (Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology)

Marzanna Poplawska holds a MA in Musicology from Warsaw University. Her Ph.D. dissertation entitled "Christian Music and Inculturation in Indonesia" examines the phenomenon of inculturation, with its theoretical, political and sociological implications, in Indonesian Christian music, with a focus on central Java and the island of Flores. Marzanna's primary interests encompass the musical traditions of Indonesia, South East Asia, and Central-Eastern Europe. She is also interested in issues of musical cognition, acculturation/inculturation, music and religion, and ritual music. Marzanna co-directs a Youth Gamelan Ensemble and works at the World Music Archives at the Wesleyan Library. She is also a performer of central-Javanese gamelan and dance.
