Private Music Lessons for Non-Music Majors

Private instrumental and vocal lessons meet for one hour, on a weekly basis, at a regular scheduled time. Students contract to take 12 lessons. Each instructor sets his or her criteria for accepting students. Private lessons is a Permission of Instructor course. Returning students who have previously taken Private Lessons may register for this course during the drop/add period. All students new to the Private Lessons Program must audition Thursday, January 26, 2012 through Friday, January 27, 2012 and register during the drop/add period. (Audition information is posted in the Music Department Lobby and on this website under Audition Schedule). When a student is accepted into the Private Lessons Program, they become liable for the additional cost of lessons, which will be billed through the Student Accounts Office as follows:

Private Lessons Fee: $795.00 for 12 one hour lessons

Private Lessons begin January 30, 2012. If this course is not dropped at least 24 hours prior to the third lesson, students will be charged the full course fee.

Financial support, for qualified students, may be available for lessons after taking one semester of lessons. Financial support applications may be obtained in the Music Department Lobby. All applications must be returned by 12:00 noon on Friday, February 3, 2012.

Additional Requirements and/or Comments:
To schedule the lesson time all students must contact the instructor and submit the Lesson Schedule Form, to the Private Lesson Teacher. These forms can be obtained in the Music Department Lobby. Students must pay lesson fees in addition to university tuition.

Students registered for MUSC 405 may receive credit for 4 semesters of private lessons, whether it be in the same instrument/voice or a variety of instruments/voice. Students registering for more than 4 sets of private lessons will receive an AU designation on their transcript once the drop/add period closes.

MUSC 405 will not count as a performance credit towards the Music major.
