This course is open to declared junior and senior music majors. Each instructor sets his or her criteria for accepting students. Private instrumental and vocal lessons meet for one hour, on a weekly basis, at a regularly scheduled time. Students contract to take 12 lessons. Returning students who have previously taken Private Lessons may register for this course during the drop/add period. All students new to the Private Lessons Program must audition Wednesday, January 23, 2008 through Friday, January 25, 2008 and register during the drop/add period. (Audition information is posted in the Music Department Lobby and on this website under Audition Schedule).
Private Lessons begin Monday, January 28, 2008. To schedule the lesson time, all students must submit the Lesson Schedule Form to the Private Lessons Instructor. This form can be obtained in the Music Studio Lobby. If the course is not dropped prior to the third lesson, students will be charged the full course fee.
Additional Requirements:
Music majors are allowed to take one (1) Private Lessons course during each semester of their junior and senior years for which part of the fee will be paid by the university, under the following guidelines:
1) Students will be responsible for a portion of the lessons fee. (The current Private Lesson fee is $735.00 per semester.) The amount will be determined each semester by the number of majors taking lessons. Students must have been approved as a major during the preceding semester.
2) Students must be studying with a Private Lessons Instructor for full academic credit. Private Lessons is a Permission of Instructor course. Returning students should register during the drop/add period. All new students must audition and register during the drop/add period. Students must pay lesson fees in addition to university tuition. This course may be repeated four times for credit.
