Molecular, Life Sciences Building Site Proposed
|
Physical Plant-Facilities held an open house and design review for
Wesleyan's new Molecular and Life Sciences building June 12.
The open house allowed Wesleyan staff and faculty, and members of the local
community to comment on the proposed plans.
The goal of the building is to create a stronger sense of community among
students and faculty in different areas of science by increased
opportunities for informal interaction. Wesleyan is taking into account ways
to use space more efficiently, improve administrative and science support
services and to address mechanical, corrosion, and safety problems in the
science buildings.
Bob Shaeffner of Payette Architects highlighted four proposals of where the
new facility should be placed. In all plans, four Wesleyan-owned homes
would be razed and replaced.
More than 60 Wesleyan staff, faculty, students and Middletown residents
attended the meeting. Participants were welcome to ask questions and share
their ideas.
