FROM AROUND THE WORLD: Carolyn Sorkin, director of International Studies, meets with international students in Hewitt lounge on Aug. 26 to to discuss how to manage culture shock. Sorkin's presentation was part of International Student Orientation, which is designed to familiarize incoming international students to the academic life and culture at Wesleyan.

The students worked as International Student Orientation leaders for Wesleyan’s International Student Services, helping acclimate students from more than 45 countries.

From left to right, Manda Ho '09 of Hong Kong; Yudhishthir Kandel '09 of Nepal; Joelle Minott '09 of Jamaica; Toshihiro Osaka '09 of Japan; and Suzanne d'Anglejan Chatillon, an exchange student from France, are shuttled to a local clinic for inoculations. Due to time constraints or lack of records, the students were unable to get the mandatory vaccinations prior to coming to Wesleyan.
At left, Sonny Jalijali, father of Alexis "Brian" Jalijali '09, looks over a Wesleyan campus map with Brian's aunt Melodia Pritchett and uncle Clark Pritchett. Sonny Jalijali brought Brian to campus from Manila, Philippines. The Pritchett's live in Waterford, Conn. and say they will 'adopt' Brian during the school year.
