TREASURE TROVE:
From left to right, President Doug Bennet, Director of Publications Bill
Holder and Construction Project Coordinator Stacy Baldwin roll out a
1931 map of campus. The map was one of hundreds of Wesleyan artifacts
discovered Feb. 10 in a locked vault in the English Department.
A locksmith opened the vault and discovered
about 40 drawers with architectural and planning drawings. Among them
are several documents relating to the history of the institution such as
construction drawings dating to 1900.
Roseann Sillasen, associate director of
facilities and project manager, discovered a silver communion set dating
from 1924.
Bennet discovers an undated artist's
rendition of dormitories on Foss Hill, which were never developed.
Bennet and Holder examine an architect's
sketch of South College.
Bennet searches for his father's Wesleyan
registration card. Douglas Bennet Sr. graduated in 1933. The card
was found in the wood box in the foreground. (Photos by Bill Burkhart)
