SCIENCE CENTER TALK: Wesleyan’s Natural Sciences and
Mathematics held its weekly lunch April 7 in Woodhead Lounge where Ted Sergi, CEO
of the Connecticut Center for Science and Exploration (CTCSE), spoke
on the center. Expected
to open in 2008, the science center will overlook the Connecticut River
in downtown Hartford and offer innovative, hands-on exhibits and

A partnership between
Wesleyan and CTCSE has several dimensions, including a relationship with
Wesleyan’s Project to Increase Mastery of Mathematics and Sciences.
The partnership will
provide professional development for science teachers, allow Wesleyan
faculty to act as advisors in the science center, and create joint
efforts between CTCSE, PIMMS and Wesleyan in general, to seek grants to
fund professional development.
The partnership was established by Peter
Patton, interim vice president of Administration, vice president and
secretary of the university and professor of earth and environmental
sciences; Joe Bruno, dean of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and
professor of chemistry; Mike Zebarth, director of PIMMS;
and Billy Weitzer, senior associate provost and dean of Continuing
Studies; intern dean of Student Academic Services and adjunct lecturer
of psychology. (Photos by Olivia Bartlett) |
