A "HOT" TOPIC:
Guest speaker and volcanologist R. Stephen Sparks spoke at a luncheon
April 10 in the Earth and Environmental Sciences Department. Sparks is
considered the leading volcanologist in the world.
Sparks, fellow of the Royal Society and
director of the Centre for Environmental and Geophysical Flows a the
University of Bristol in the United Kingdom, lectured on "The Dynamics
of Kimberlite Eruptions."
The lecture, sponsored by the Earth and
Environmental Sciences Department, was attended by more than 100
students, faculty staff and guests. Sparks also delivered a public
science lecture titled "How Volcanos Work," which focused on the
eruptions occurring over the last decade in the Caribbean. (Photos by
