SAFETY TRAINING: Ness Saban '10, left, uses a fire extinguisher to practice putting out a fire during Campus Fire Safety Day Sept. 26. The event was organized by Barbara Spalding, associate director of Campus Fire Safety, center, and Christine Cruz, safety coordinator, right.

Micah Siegel-Wallace '10 awaits a water-based "smoke" substitute to fill the room during a fire safety lesson put on by the Middletown Fire Department. Firemen taught students how to crawl through the haze and safely find a way out of the smoke-filled area. The simulated smoke was harmless to participants.
The Middletown Fire Department also demonstrated how smoke detectors trigger sprinkler systems. The purpose of Campus Fire Safety Day was to offer fire safety training and informational material to Wesleyan students.
