FAMILY AFFAIR:
The student group, Para La Familia, hosted their biggest event of the year
Dec. 1-2 called Fin de Semana Familiar. The event gave Spanish-speaking
families the opportunity to participate in activities similar to
Homecoming/Family Weekend, in the Spanish language. A formal family
dinner was one of the main events. |

Families lined up for the buffet dinner,
held inside the Beckham Ballroom in the newly remodeled Fayerweather
building. |

Event coordinators and Para La Familia
members, from left, Miguel Ramirez, Scarlett Feliz, Rene Ventura and
Katherine Rodriguez presented flowers to Sandy Tello, assistant
director of Regional Programs and Networks. The mission of Para La Familia is to provide resources in Spanish for Spanish-speaking families
that otherwise would not be available to them through the university. |

Wesleyan President Michael Roth attended the
dinner and mingled with the Spanish-speaking community. He spoke to the
audience through a translator. |

A family version of Noche de Gala was
another Fin de Semana Familiar event. Noche de Gala is the Latino formal held at the end of every Latino
Awareness Month.
The Latin dance group formerly known as Caliente performed salsa, merengue
and bachata. (Photos contributed by members of Para La Familia)
