CELEBRATING AN ICON:
Bernice Johnson Reagon delivered the keynote address at Wesleyan's
Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Jan. 29 in Memorial Chapel. Reagon
is a singer, composer and professor emerita of history at American
University. She received an honorary degree from Wesleyan in 2001.
Andrea Depetris '10 presented a reflection
during the celebration.
President Michael Roth and Tim Shiner,
director of student activities and leadership development, applaud the
speakers.
The Roadside Girls sang a musical interlude
at the event. Pianist Noah Baerman and the Ebony Singers also performed.
Reagon, who recently retired after 30 years
of performing with a capella ensemble Sweet Honey in the Rock, spoke and
sang at the celebration.
The Memorial Chapel was filled with members
