CELEBRATING AN ICON: Bernice Johnson Reagon delivered the keynote address at Wesleyan's Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Jan. 29 in Memorial Chapel. Reagon is a singer, composer and professor emerita of history at American University. She received an honorary degree from Wesleyan in 2001.

Andrea Depetris '10 presented a reflection during the celebration.
President Michael Roth and Tim Shiner, director of student activities and leadership development, applaud the speakers.
The Roadside Girls sang a musical interlude at the event. Pianist Noah Baerman and the Ebony Singers also performed.
Reagon, who recently retired after 30 years of performing with a capella ensemble Sweet Honey in the Rock, spoke and sang at the celebration.
