RETURNING TO RESEARCH, TEACHING: Peter Patton, vice president and secretary of the university and professor of earth and environmental sciences, was honored at a reception April 30 in Beckham Hall for being part of Wesleyan's administration for 13 years. In 2008-09, he will return to a full-time position as a professor.

Patton speaks to Ann Goodwin, associate vice president for University Relations, while David Beveridge, the University Professor of the Sciences and Mathematics, professor of chemistry; and Lex Leifheit, assistant director of the Green Street Arts Center, look on. Patton has worked at Wesleyan since 1976.
Wesleyan's former president, Doug Bennet, attended the reception to honor Patton. In 1995, Bennet asked Patton to join his senior staff. Under the Bennet administration, Patton worked as senior advisor for information technology, twice as interim dean of the college and once as interim vice president for administration.
