WESLEYAN SUPPORTS LITERACY VOLUNTEERS: Pictured third from left, Darlene Hurtado, executive director of Literacy Volunteers of Central Connecticut, accepts a check worth $1,500 from the 15th Annual Wesleyan University Open Golf Tournament participants Sean Higgins, David Meyer and Lou Onofrio July 22 at Wesleyan. This year, 72 Wesleyan affiliates participated in the fund-raising event. Hurtado says the donation will be used to support the Literacy Volunteers program in Middletown. The organization helps adults with reading and writing education.

Meyer offers Hurtado the actual check. All tournament participants pay a $100 entry fee which includes an 18-hole round, prizes and dinner. A portion of the fee is collected for a local charity. (Photos by Olivia Bartlett)
