New Student Orientation 2008

New Student Orientation (NSO) is a comprehensive introduction to Wesleyan University. The program helps students build a foundation for academic and cocurricular success. New students were introduced to Wesleyan's academic rigor through meetings with their faculty advisors, faculty lectures, discussions, and skill-building workshops. Wesleyan’s vast array of cocurricular opportunities, resources, and services for students were also highlighted.

International Student Orientation

International Student Orientation began four days before New Student Orientation to give international students time to recover from travel and acclimate to campus, to make cultural adjustments, and to connect with campus resources. ISO is designed to familiarize incoming international students with the academic life and culture at Wesleyan, and ease their transition to the United States. ISO concluded with a celebration dinner Aug. 25, where several of the international students donned attire from their native country. The dinner was followed by an outdoor reception.

Common Moment

Wesleyan celebrated its incoming students on Aug. 29 with the Feet to the Fire Common Moment. Led by the world renowned Liz Lerman Dance Exchange, the event featured a dance and a special performance by students and community members on bicycles, tricycles and unicycles. As part of the performance, the students assembled in the shape of a histogram that outlined the results of a campus poll on global climate change. The night concluded with a performance of fire-dancing by Wesleyan student group Prometheus.
