For immediate release: Monday, September 20, 2004

(MIDDLETOWN, CT) – Wesleyan University's Center for Continuing Studies introduces its inaugural offering of non-credit courses designed to provide adult students with opportunities for continuous learning in the liberal arts.

Initially, five non-credit courses are being offered in the Creative Arts, Writing and Publishing, and Culture and Society. The courses are: The Feedback Salon: An Artist's Workshop, History of the Book, The Art of Jazz Improvisation, A Writer's Workshop, and Writing for Publication. Instructors include renowned artist Peter Waite, jazz pianist Noah Baerman, writers Charlotte Currier and Jamie Callan, and rare book specialist Suzy Taraba.

Registration is open now and classes begin the week of October 4, 2004. Classes meet once a week, in the evening and Saturday morning, for five sessions. Another group of courses will be offered from March 21 through April 23, 2005. The Center for Continuing Studies plans to expand courses offerings every fall, spring, and summer.

"Building on Wesleyan's reputation as a leading liberal arts institution, the Center for Continuing Studies will offer high-caliber educational opportunities to a broader range of students," according to Lori Hunter-Union, associate dean of Continuing Studies and director of the Graduate Liberal Studies Program. "The non-credit program offers an environment where adults can explore new areas or pursue existing interests without the time commitment and pressures of a degree program."

Established in 1831, Wesleyan University is a coeducational, private university of the liberal arts and sciences. It serves approximately 2,700 undergraduates, 150 full-time graduate students and over 800 part-time graduate liberal studies students. Wesleyan offers a challenging academic environment promoting independent thought and action.
