Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at 34 Fairview Ave. on Wednesday, October 13, 3 p.m. - 4:15 p.m.

For immediate release: Tuesday, October 5, 2004

(MIDDLETOWN, CT.) – Wesleyan University faculty, staff and students will gather in Middletown to officially dedicate the white colonial it recently donated to Northern Middlesex Habitat for Humanity, Inc. (NMHFH) – a local affiliate for Habitat for Humanity International.

Wesleyan University's President Douglas J. Bennet, VP for Finance and Administration Marcia Bromberg, and Interim Dean of the College Peter Patton will attend the ribbon cutting ceremony, (rain or shine) on Wednesday, October 13 from 3 p.m.– 4:15 p.m. at 34 Fairview Avenue, Middletown.

Northern Middlesex Habitat for Humanity president Richard Engelhardt along with student volunteers from WeShelter, Wesleyan's Habitat for Humanity student chapter, are also expected to be on hand to help launch the project that will ultimately enable a Middlesex County family in need to own a home.

NMHFH is currently in the process of selecting a family to reside in the Fairview Street residence upon complete renovation. The selected family will buy the house with no interest, no profit mortgage and will also help the volunteers reconstruct their new home under trained supervision.

With assistance from Wesleyan University's campus chapter of Habitat for Humanity International, the Northern Middlesex Habitat affiliate program began in 1996. Half of the families they serve are from Middletown with the remainder living throughout Middlesex County. NMHFH recently completed construction on its sixth house in East Hampton, CT.
