(MIDDLETOWN, CT) -- Wesleyan University President Douglas J. Bennet and Middletown Councilman John Robinson and will be among the guests celebrating the grand opening of Broad Street Books, the Wesleyan Bookstore and Café on Wednesday, September 24 at 4:30 p.m.

The store and café are located in the same building as the old Atticus Books on Broad Street, but significant changes have been made in every facet of the business.

"I think people are going to be really excited when they see the new store," says Marcia Bromberg, Wesleyan's Vice President for Finance and Administration. "It's an amazing transformation, and not just of the space. There will also be much more to choose from and better service afforded to customers."

A full-service bookstore open to the community, Broad Street Books offers a completely redesigned and refurbished interior, a more extensive book selection and improved handicap accessibility. The store is owned by Wesleyan but will be operated by the Follett Higher Education Group, a national bookstore operation that specializes in managing college bookstores.

The new Red and Black Café, which is located within the bookstore, is operated by Ed Thorndike and Karen Kaffen-Polascik, who also operate WesWings 156 High St. on the Wesleyan Campus.

The grand opening will feature a ribbon cutting ceremony, brief remarks and refreshments supplied by the Red and Black Café.
