For immediate release: October 7, 2004

(MIDDLETOWN, CT--)Vera Schwarcz, Wesleyan University's Freeman Professor of History and East Asian Studies will host an art exhibit by Chava Pressburger in a presentation titled "In the Garden of Memory: A Conversation In Poetry and Print" on October 14 from 4:30 p.m.– 6:00 p.m. at Broad Street Books, 45 Broad St. in Middletown.

Schwarcz's poetry and the Pressburger exhibit, which has toured internationally, explores the themes of historical trauma in contemporary life. Schwarcz will discuss the context of the artwork, read from her poetry and lead a discussion of the themes involved in both.

Pressburger's artwork is created from paper she produces herself from plants cultivated in her garden and near her home in Northern Nagev, Israel. Schwarcz traveled to Israel to help Pressburger prepare the exhibit.

Prints by Pressburger and a volume of poems by Schwarcz will also be available during the exhibit for purchase. For more information contact, Vera Schwarcz, 860-685-2383.
