(MIDDLETOWN, CT) — Cheryl Lim, a Wesleyan University senior sociology and psychology major from Malaysia, has recently earned the 2005 Rhodes Scholarship for Malaysia. Lim was the only student chosen from 58 Malaysian applications to earn the prestigious award.

With the scholarship, Lim hopes to attend Oxford University graduate school, where she would like to pursue a master's degree in comparative social policy. If accepted by Oxford University, her two-year scholarship would cover all college fees and monthly living allowances.

"I feel incredibly thankful and lucky to have been offered this amazing opportunity," says Lim, who one day plans to pursue advocacy work with a non-profit organization specializing in women and children's issues upon completion of her master's degree.

Rhodes scholarships were initiated after the death of Cecil Rhodes in 1902. They are one of the oldest and most prestigious international fellowships in the world and now bring outstanding students from the Commonwealth, Germany and USA to Oxford University.

Established in 1831, Wesleyan University is a coeducational, private university of the liberal arts and sciences. It serves approximately 2,700 undergraduates and 150 graduate students and offers a challenging academic environment promoting independent thought and action.
